When his mother re-marries, David has a falling out with his step-father and is sent to boarding school. Through a series of misfortunes David runs away to strike out on his own. Many memorable characters such as his housekeeper Peggoty and landlord Wilkins Micawber enter, leave, and re-enter David's circle as he searches for meaning and hapiness in life.
