Anne of the Island

Anne of the Island, by Lucy Maud Montgomery, was published in 1915 and picks up as Anne leaves Avonlea to pursue her dream of earning a college education at fictitious Redmond College in Nova Scotia. There she is joined by Gilbert and Charlie Sloane while meeting new friends such as the frivolous but beautiful Philippa Gordon. Diana Barry remains in Avonlea and the twins Davy and Dora continue to challenge Marilla. Anne’s relationship with Gilbert takes many unexpected turns as she faces her idealization of what true love is, embodied by fellow student Roy Gardner, and discovers the things that really matter.
