The Old Curiosity Shop

The Old Curiosity Shop, by Charles Dickens, was published in 1841 after running as a serial from 1840 - 1841. The story follows the life of Nell Trent and her grandfather who live in The Old Curiosity Shop in London. Nell is a beautiful thirteen year old who lives a lonely life with few friends other than the young boy Kit, whom she teaches to write. Nell's grandfather loses the little that they have playing cards and they are evicted by the evil money lender Daniel Quilp. After Nell takes her distraught grandfather and heads to the Midlands of England and Kit takes a new job, news of an undisclosed family fortune and the arrival of a mysterious stranger spur a hunt for the missing duo.
