Anne of Green Gables

$1.00

Anne of Green Gables, by Lucy Maud Montgomery, was published in 1908 and initiates the series of stories centered on the town and people of fictional Avonlea on Canada's Prince Edward Island. Anne of Green Gables opens with busybody Mrs. Rachel Lynde observing neighbor Matthew Cuthbert leaving the homestead dressed in his Sunday best on a normal workday. On pressing the issue with Matthew's sister, Marilla, Rachel discovers the Cuthburts are adopting a boy to help work the farm.  All are surprised when the "boy" turns out to be the dreamy but fiery red-haired Anne - a young orphan from Nova Scotia. Thus begins one of the most memorable stories of home, family, acceptance, and coming of age that has ever been written.
