The Chimes

$1.00

The Chimes, by Charles Dickens, was first published in 1844 and deals with the difficult themes of poverty, status, and self-worth. Trotty, the main character, is a messenger confronted with the inequalities in life, his destitute nature, and that of his friends.  Are they really not worth living for? Are they destined to a life of misery with no hope of improvement? The chimes call to him and Trotty is confronted and reprimanded by their goblin attendants by a frighteningly vivid view of the future. Check out the other Dickens Christmas classics: A Christmas Carol, The Cricket on the Hearth, The Battle of Life, The Haunted Man and the Ghost’s Bargain.
